Our tour will follow the same path that fiber travels through the mill.  We will move through the process in the following order, but feel free to skip around using the links:

 

But before we take you on a tour of the mill itself, take a look at a couple of shearing pictures.  These happen to depict angora goat shearing.  The shearing machine used here is different and more powerful than the electric clippers used in dog grooming.  The first picture is a kid goat about to get its second haircut.  The second picture is a sheep herd waiting for its spring appointment with the hairdresser.

        

 

The shearing process, as much as proper care of the animal growing the fiber, can make or break the quality of the raw fiber.  Sorting the fleece to separate the best fiber from the parts that are inevitably inferior to some degree is best done and easiest to do at shearing time.
